Frequently Asked Questions
Does the certification have to match my job?
No. Credentialing Assistance can be used for eligible credentials listed on Army COOL regardless of whether the credential is directly related to your MOS.
Will using CA extend my service commitment?
No. There is no service obligation attached to Credentialing Assistance.
What if I already paid for something?
Unfortunately, the system only works through advance approval — the Army pays the vendor, not you. There's no reimbursement for personal charges.
What if I'm a commissioned officer?
As of March 2026, commissioned officers are no longer eligible for CA. Options include Tuition Assistance for degree coursework or the GI Bill® for approved licensing/certification tests (up to $2,000 per test, reimbursed after passing). However, if an Officer has an open credential goal, they can still use CA funding until that goal is complete.
Can I use CA and TA in the same year?
Yes. Combined, they can cover up to $4,500 in a single fiscal year.
When should I submit my request?
CA requests must be submitted at least 45 days and no more than 90 days before the course or exam start date.
